Sweet point

Left over from my pregnancy was a wicked, wicked-ass sweet tooth.

If you’d asked me pre-AG,what made up my Achilles’ heel, I would have told you that if it started with “P” and ended in “-otato,” I wouldn’t care how you prepared it. SERVE. IT. TO. ME. With salt.

Now? I can’t tell you the last time I had a French fry, and it has nothing with Points or health or whatever. I just don’t care that much about them.

But sweets? Oh sweet Lord.

In an effort to eat healthier, and not deprive myself of something I want, I’ve taken to bulking up my desserts with frozen fruit. The one to your left is a half-cup of light Drumstick ice cream (measured out exactly because who are we kidding here), a Tablespoon of Hershey’s Syrup, light, 1.5 cups of frozen, unsweetened cherries, a couple of dollops of Reddi-Wip (Full disclosure: Reddi-Wip is a client of mine at work) and a Tablespoon of graham cracker crumbs. I’ve also taken to mixing a cup of Jell-O sugar-free dark chocolate pudding, a cup of dark cherry Jell-O gelatin, a cup of frozen, unsweetened raspberries and a few dollops of Reddi-Wip.

The above is about six points total, and I have some combination of it every day. The puddings are about four points, I think. It’s been awhile since I’ve had it.

Throughout my day, I aim for fruits as snacks. At the end of the day? Screw it.

I would love to tell you that I’ve found ice creams and chocolate syrups I like that aren’t laden with processed ingredients. That I’ve eschewed these things for homemade alternatives. But I can’t. And, frankly, I’m too tired to do so. I’ve put a lot of effort in my health this year, but at some point I have to draw a line and remember that moderation is key. Not for nothing? Some of the healthier things don’t satisfy my cravings, are pricey and oftentimes are worth more points. Should I eschew points-values in favor of a less chemically flavored option? Probably. Do I lose sleep over it anymore? No.

If the Three Pillars have any underlying, generally unspoken principle its this: even the pillars themselves shouldn’t be obsessed over.

What are some of your favorite quick-and-easy desserts? I always like options!

In other health news, there is a chance I have plantar fasciitis. Because of course now that I’ve lost 25 pounds and fixed my breathing problems, something else is likely to go to hell in hand basket.

I don’t think it’s severe – I don’t wake up with pain, and it’s not constant, but I can’t ignore it. And my coworkers, most of whom are runners, would never let me get away with ignoring it. So Tuesday I’m heading over to The Running Institute to make sure.

My run time this week was 10:19. I’m not going to screw this sort of progress up by ignoring the problem. I’ve already been using a tennis ball, and paying closer attention to my stretching. I’ve got my foam roller out. I’ll do whatever it takes not to be sidelined, even if that means I have to sit out for a little bit to make sure I heal. No pun intended.

I remain pretty amazed that we’re heading into the holiday season shortly. I can’t believe I’ve got a daughter who is speedily moving into toddlerhood. Just this week she sprouted TWO more teeth. Every day is a new adventure with her. It’s just awesome.
