Why branding is important. I'm not kidding.

What I do for a living has, at least in the past two years or so, had a lot to do with the concept of branding. Your brand. That accessory you carry to identify yourself to the world.

For the past five years, the layout of this site has been just that: my brand. I sat here at my computer last night trying to figure out what I could do to fix this mess before I just threw up my hands and stomped away from the computer. This is not the end of the world, mind you. But this Web site is a pretty large part of my life, and my routine, and now it looks like 2003 set off a bomb in here. It has no character or distinction, nothing that says me, nothing that says the person who has been writing here at this URL has been doing so for almost a decade.

I think the fact that this all looks so newbie is driving me nuts the most.

But in the interest of change, which I've been aching for around these parts, anyway, because it was outdated, I'm going to take a stab at a bit of a redesign. Every brand should go through one when things get stale, anyway. Thanks to the Way Back Machine, I was able to retrieve the entries from the last five years, and I've made an agreement with myself that I'll spend a few hours a week putting them back up.  It'll take some time, which I don't have a lot of, but it'll all come back.

It's probably time, and sometimes you have to get forced into a corner to make a change.

In the meantime, anyone have any FREE MT themes/styles/skins they can point my way for the time being? Something I can customize to a degree? With the house buying, there is no such thing as expendable cash at the moment.
