The Three Pillars

If you’ve been around me in the past couple of months, and dared to broach to me the subject of being a mother and the concept of “having it all,” you’ll hear me say what I know I’ve mentioned here: You can have it all, you just can’t have it all at the same time.

I believe in that adage with all of my heart. The minute you shoot for all around perfect, you shoot yourself in the foot and end up the very definition of Crazy-Ass Woman. My husband already thinks I’m crazy, and as soon as my child gets herself an awareness larger that her general vicinity, I’m certain she may echo this sentiment. I don’t need to invite more crazy into my life.

So I came up with a concept for myself: The Three Pillars. I’ve talked about them already – family, health and work. It’s this concept that will serve as the foundation for the direction of this blog. These are big concepts, to be sure, but my main objective is to explore how I’m tackling handling these three things, and hopefully figure out some things along the way.

Every Mother’s Day, I’m aiming to revisit the year’s three pillars and figure out which ones to keep a focus on, which things in my life I’d like to address and which things I’d like to put aside for the next 12 months. I have no idea whether I’ll be successful or not, but I’m giving it a shot.

The irony, of course, is that this blog’s new intention, at least its new structure and language, probably won’t be complete for another week or two. Because, you know, ejshea.com just doesn’t fit into the three pillars, so it’s not going to get the full attention it needs. But we’ll get there, slowly but surely. In the meantime, I’ve linked to my Pinterest boards, as well as Twitter and Tumblr, Goodreads and DailyMile. I’ll update the sites and stuff I love – already have, yay! – but I probably won’t get a routine down just yet.

So bear with me as I make these changes and thanks for your patience and feedback!
