After five tough days of starting and stopping, practice labor and all that comes with it, followed by 30 hours of unmedicated labor, Abigail Grace came into the world at 5:23 p.m., February 28, by c-section, weighing 8 pounds, 7 ounces. She’s 20-inches long.
It’s probably no shock to any of you that she’s the most amazing, marvelous human being to ever enter our lives.
Everyone is safe and healthy, although as you can probably guess from the above, I’m beyond exhausted. Scott is too. Abigail is still figuring things out, too, although currently her favorite pastimes include breastfeeding for long stretches of time, lying on her Daddy’s chest, listening to him sing her TV sitcom theme songs and being awesome.
More to come, obviously, but for now I’m heading back to my daughter and my husband.

yipeee! congratulations!
Congratulations Erin and Scott – she is adorable.
Something tells me that the Golden Girls theme song will be Abigail’s karaoke go-to in later years and she’ll have no idea why…
Oh congratulations to all three of you! Three! Plus Glinny!
Yay! You must be so, so tired but also elated. Congrats!
Oh Erin, congratulations! She’s just gorgeous. Wishing you three lots of rest and recovery.
Beautiful baby girl, beautiful name. Thanks for letting us know…the news brought me a lot of joy!
I am so excited to share a birthday with Abigail. We will always be birthday buddies. This means I am going to be watching over her EVEN MORE. I love you all!
Congratulations! Abilgail is beautiful!
Congratulations! Welcome to the world, Abigail Grace.
Congratulations to you both, Erin and Scott. She’s beautiful and the name you chose for her is lovely. Best wishes.
Another long-time listener, first-time caller here to wish you and your growing family all the most gloriously awesome things the world has to offer. Welcome Abigail!
Oh, YAY! Congratulations, Erin and Scott, and welcome, Abigail Grace.
First – congratulations!!!!
Second – 27 years ago, to the hour, my daughter was born. How cool is that? I spent Feb. 28 reliving the memory of giving birth and you were actually giving birth.
Congratulations to you all. Glad you are doing well. Enjoy your time with your new family. We will be here when you get back!
So happy for all of you! Blessings on your whole family (and on the nursing.)
Okay, I have read this blog for a long time and have never commented but I just had to pop in and say, “Awwwww!” Congratulations!
Congratulations to the lucky Abigail!
How delightful and wonderful! Heaps of congratulations and all that jazz to you and Scott and Abigail
Thank you for sharing your beautiful daughter with us in the internets. I am a long, long-time reader and am just thrilled for you and your family. As a mom to 2 kiddos, a 2 year old daughter and a 3 month old son, I am anxiously awaiting reading your future posts about motherhood with your usual wit and humor. I have loved your pregnancy posts. For now, sleep and enjoy these precious moments.
Glad to know you’re both healthy and safe! Congratulations to all three!!
OMG! Look what I missed! So happy for you. Congratulations. I’ve been not paying attention lately, so when I saw your tweets I got really excited!!! I’m around if you need help. I promise to pay better attention.
She’s so beautiful! And great job making it through the delivery.
Congratulations! She’s beautiful. Enjoy every moment. I know it’s hard when you’re sleep deprived.
I just thought, “Hey! You should check Erin’s blog–maybe she’s had the baby!” You have, obviously, and she’s BEAUTIFUL! Congratulations to the whole family!!!
What a beautiful girl you grew!
Congratulations.
(also, I wore the compression belt for two or three weeks post c-section. Helped me feel like my insides weren’t falling out and allowed me to be more active)
What a wonderful new adventure! Best to you three.
Congrats, Erin! I knew you could do it.
Lovely & amazing Abigail! She looks really smart, too! Congratulations, and can’t wait to hear more!
Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl. And you don’t have to choose to post this comment, but I wanted to send you a message.
I’ve read you for years and commented once or twice before. I seem to keep reading you because as different as we are on some levels, there are so many similarities on others.
As another mom super interested in unmedicated labor, natural childbirth, whichever tag is most comfortable to cover the choices you made in switching from your ob to your midwives and trying to go with as little interventions as possible, but then ultimately requiring a c-section, I look forward to posts if not conversations regarding that chain of events and the emotions you have as a result, as I am still processing my own from my September baby. Apparently, Dr. Brotman’s been busy!
It has been strange to find that 6 months out, I’ve been more than euphoric at having my son, thankful for his health and safe delivery, and still grieving for myself because of some of the aspects of our birht experience. While I certainly don’t expect your experience to be the same as my own, I am curious. My son was breech from 20 weeks on, though, and a c-section was pretty much guaranteed from 35 weeks on, so I didn’t have the 30 hours of labor you did! I am sure that each of us has totally different plusses and minuses to our experiences, but I grieve not knowing what the experience of a laboring woman is like at all (aside from my water breaking a week before my scheduled section, so birth wasn’t totally reduced to feeling like a routine appointment, thankfully.)
Again, feel free to not post my comment, as I know this is treading on fragile ground so soon after your beautiful Abigail was born, but if you find the inclination to use your blog to process your birth experience as you’ve used it to process other things, please know you have an audience more similar to you – even in this regard – than you know.
What a beautiful girl you grew!
Congratulations.
(post c-section I wore the compression belt for two or three weeks. It helped me feel less like I was falling apart and also allowed me to be more active.)
What a crazy, wonderful adventure you’re embarking on. Best to you three!
Congratulations!!!!
Long time reader, first time commenter. Congratulations! What a lovely name.
Congratulations! She’s beautiful!
Beautiful name for a beautiful girl. Congrats to you and Scott from a loooong time lurker
Congrats! she looks a lot like you I think! Can’t wait to hear more about Erin and babies/parenting, I hope you post some on the topic!
Congratulations! She’s beautiful!
Congrats! You are a trooper and you should have expected any daughter of your’s would have to make a grand entrance! I love that she is getting sung tv theme songs as lullabies. If I could make requests I would say anything from the 80s would be most appropriate: Silver Spoons, Family Ties, ALF, Small Wonder, I mean the list goes on and on. Anyway, SO EXCITED for you – can’t wait to see more pics!!!
Welcome to the world little Abigail Grace. Enjoy every single minute. Congratulations!
